An Intimate & Peaceful Fall Elopement

Pure happiness shot in vintage fashion on 35mm film

When Nicole told me they had decided to elope I was so happy for my dear friend. It was even more happiness when they asked me to take portraits for them on this special day. They were both camera shy and wanted to keep it simple and relaxed, just exploring with her new husband in her favourite woods for portraits and sharing joy with family members in their home.

It was an honour capturing it all. I couldn’t be more proud as I say; enjoy these beautiful, kind, creative images that remind me off all that I love about photography.

Okay those are just my favourites of the walk we went on to capture their “formal” very unformal couple portraits. This is an absolutely ideal way to capture your essence with your partner, I am such a huge fan of relaxed creation over formal posed photos. We did sneak a few of those in the gallery but I just have to persuade any and all couples to include a time for a walk with me on their special day.

Now… back to my other favourite part of a wedding day; GETTING READY PHOTOS! Get ready to scream, their apartment is absolutely to die for and yes, we did create epic frickin photos. Peep those stunningly unique flowers from a local shop on Elgin Street here in Ottawa: Scrim’s Florist. Her dress was thrifted from Bellwethers Vintage (another local gem hidden just off Bank street), and the ring came from an Etsy shop called Molly Jewellery US.

Black and white film was requested by this bride, you will see it intermixed into the whole gallery. The extra colourful rainbow images you may also notice are a funky film I love to shoot with and can also include in your gallery by request!

Flip forward in time again back to this beautiful Bride’s home where she spent many years with her family…

I have to point out these: I had saved a roll of blossoms from May when they were originally hoping to have their wedding. With the changes and stress, I wanted to do something special to still include my friends love for spring blossoms. You’ll see a few of these blooming double exposures through the gallery. I adore the contrast of these two beautiful and colourful seasons.

Okay the last little bit of family portraits; onto visiting the grooms family home nearby.

I gotta stop while I’m ahead here pals, I keep seeing more images I want to share and it’s already a large gallery. Congratulations to this lovely couple once again <3

A word of advice to those planning for the future elopement: just be yourself. Follow your gut when you’re planning, if you want to keep it small and lovely and creative DO IT. Please, come be your awkward camera shy art loving selves with me. Let’s take a walk and chat, focus on the candid moments, the surroundings, the creation, the connection.

All the love,

Kris <3
