A Queer Creative Portrait Session at Kris' Place

I met AnnaLee of Illusive Artworks at 613 flea and loved their artwork, after buying a couple of (very cool) shirts and having some nice convos about mental health I asked if I could shoot them. I love working with other creatives and it had been a while since I’d had a creative session with another artist. I’m so glad we connected and made some art together!

Here’s what we shot around my house, it was a blast.

We had such a good chat about the way our bodies are perceived as more masculine or feminine and what tends to work best for posing to exude more of the energy you want to express. I absolutely loved sharing my tips with them on bringing out their masculine energy in posing and adore what we captured together. My shoots will always be a safe place to explore and create, it means a lot to be trusted with these experiences.

Kept it going in my favourite room… the best bathroom ever.

Finished out the morning with some fun backdrops and neon lighting for some weird and wonderful shots inspired by Emma Wondra and their fantastic body normalizing & explorative gender series (you gotta check out their work if you haven’t heard of them!!).

I really enjoy experimenting with slow shutter speeds and movement, and double exposures. Simply obsessed with creating magnificent doubles, here are my favourites from this shoot. (Created in camera with my Nikon FM2 on 35mm Kodak Portra film.

Thanks for the trust and fun times! I’m looking forward to meeting more of Ottawa’s LGBTQ2+ community through shoots like this in the future.
